Forum for the Future of Agriculture

This year, the Forum for Agriculture FFA2010 adds another column to its event: the Student Forum. Students from leading schools across Europe are invited to join the FFA2010 with their own panel of renowned experts from the Forum.

Pressing issues for the farmers and policy makers of tomorrow include:

Farm productivity & competitiveness…

Climate change…

Water shortages…

Biodiversity loss…

Food riots…

Subsidies…

Trade…

Globalization…

Sustainability…

To approach these from different angles, students across academic disciplines are invited to join. As an agricultural student, you might take a different stance to farm subsidies than a policy student or an economist.

The Student Forum aims to bring together these different views and give them a voice in the current debate. After the students have had the unique opportunity to discuss with renowned researchers, academics and scientists, their conclusions will be presented to the main Forum’s plenary.

Jagdish Bhagwati from Columbia University, Cary Fowler, Executive Director of the Global Crop Diversity, Mairead McGuinness, Irish MEP, and author of the European Parliament’s report on food security, H.E. Brave Ndisdale, Ambassador of Malawi to the EU; and Sir Crispin Tickell, a former advisor to Margeret Thatcher and one of the first to warn of the dangers of climate change, will be there to inspire to a candid debate on the “Top Priorities for a Better Future for Agriculture in Europe”.

This exceptional Forum will also be webcasted and will take place during the general FFA2010 from 10.30 to 12.30, at the Square in Brussels. Students are also invited to participate in the general FFA, taking place from 8.45 to 17.30.

If you would like to attend the Student Forum of FFA2010 on March 17 2010, please send an e-mail to info@forumforagriculture.com for registration and further information. Please include your name, school and contact email and phone number.
